Mike Cole rushed for five touchdowns Thursday night to lead Los Amigos High School to a 47-0 season-opening victory over Los Amigos at Garden Grove High School. Cole, a 5-foot 10-inch,
180-pound senior fullback, scored four times in the first half and once in the fourth quarter on runs of 1, 13, 1, 1 and 3 yards. Los Alamitos’ other two touchdowns also came on runs. “I
told Mike that he had the kind of night that he’s probably dreamed about for the past 10 years by scoring five TDs,” Los Alamitos Coach John Barnes said. “Whenever we get close to the goal
line we don’t do anything fancy--we just run up behind the big guys in our line and it happened that Mike got the ball this time.” The Griffins’ other two scores came on a seven-yard run by
Neil Sorensen and a three-yard run by Roger Roadstrom. “We were so successful with our passing game last season that it’s nice to see the running game come around,” Barnes added. Cole
finished with 41 yards in 10 carries, Sorensen had 69 yards in 19 carries and Marcus Garcia led all rushers with 83 yards in 19 carries. Los Alamitos quarterback Tom Williamson completed 8
of 12 attempts for 123 yards. Next week, Los Alamitos plays host to Tustin; Los Amigos is at Magnolia. MORE TO READ
