For Immediate Release April 11, 2011

Washington – AARP released the following response after a few Members of Congress sent a letter to IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman regarding AARP’s tax status.

Spokesperson Drew Nannis: “Out of respect for the role of Congress in this matter, AARP has cooperated with the requests for information, providing hundreds of pages of documents.  This

referral by a few Members of Congress will once again give AARP the opportunity to continue our long-standing tradition of transparency, and we welcome the chance to further our ongoing and

positive working relationship with the IRS on these issues.

“AARP is proud of the work it does on behalf of its millions of members and all people 50+, and we have posted our annual reports, Form 990s and other public filings, as well as charts on

AARP’s revenues and expenditures on our website at www.aarp.org/CheckForYourself.  In addition, we’ve included the information that AARP voluntarily sent to Congressional staff at their

request over the last several months.”

More information regarding the report can be found on our website: www.aarp.org/checkforyourself.
