Birmingham Mail) Car thefts and break-ins are likely to increase over the next few weeks, experts warned, as drivers were told to be careful about leaving valuables on display.


Warmer weather typically results in higher car crime, with windows or roofs left open, providing easy access to thieves.


Crooks may also be more likely to try car doors in the hope they have been left unlocked.

And with warmer summer weather during June and July, it has sparked a renewed warning to motorists to think about what they are leaving on display.


Valuables are most likely nicked from cars, while sunglasses are also a popular target.

It's common for sunglasses to be left in cars and drivers might think little of it - but people are warned about leaving expensive pairs on display.


A spokesperson at One Sure Insurance said: "During heatwaves we often see people leave a pair of sunglasses in their car, perhaps on the dashboard or in the centre console, but this can make


you a target.


"Opportunistic thieves are looking for anything they can grab quickly.

"Sunglasses, especially designer ones, are easy to spot and sell."


They added: “Thieves are adapting their approach to compete with new car technology, making it crucial for vehicle owners to err on the side of caution when leaving belongings in the car.

locations and hiding valuables from sight.”
