Football icon David Beckham has joined the clamour of praise raining down on Tom Wagner and Birmingham City FC over exciting plans to build a new home for Blues and a 'life

transforming' sports quarter to rival the best in the world. The former England captain spoke up in response to an Instagram video message from Blues chairman Wagner celebrating the

announcement of Government funding for a tram line that was described as 'vital' for the scheme to go ahead. Beckham is good friends with Blues minority investor and NFL star Tom

Brady, and was in attendance when Birmingham took on rivals Wrexham last year in what was dubbed the 'Hollywood derby' because of the involvement of superstars. Wrexham are owned

direct to fans about the progress of the scheme, and it was posted on the BCFC official Insta account. Beckham wrote in reply 'Congratulations Tom Brady and Tom Wagner' followed by

two blue hearts. Witty retorts to Beckham's message included one fan's suggestion that he could come and be the team's set piece coach, referring to the star's ability

to score from freekicks. Others suggested he comes and invests quick 'before we put the price up', while he was also asked if he fancied a friendly match. "Would deffo be

great to set up some sort of link between us and Inter Miami" said another fan. The post from the Blues has rapidly garnered thousands of views, with Brummies keen to show their love

for Wagner and the club's leadership. 'We're on our way, Tom is God!' summed up the tone of most messages, with calls for a knighthood and pledges of love pouring in from

region was announced this week by the Chancellor Rachel Reeves.  Part of it, around £400m, will fund a new Metro line to the former Wheels site that the Blues are buying up for the £3

billion scheme.  Blues owners Knighthead intend to build world-class sports and leisure facilities and a new Blues ground on the land, creating thousands of jobs in the process. The

announcement followed months of intense lobbying by Mayor Richard Parker and Knighthead frontman Wagner. The American had warned it would be 'criminal' if public money was not used

to fund the transport infrastructure he said was vital to unlock the £3 billion investment. The much vaunted line will run from the city centre to the Sports Quarter, then later go on to

Heartlands Hospital, Birmingham Airport, the NEC and the HS2 interchange at Arden Cross. The first phase could be ready in five years.
