THERE IS A SECLUDED BEACH IN RURAL NORTHUMBERLAND THAT IS MOST DEFINITELY ONE OF THE REGION'S BEST HIDDEN GEMS 10:19, 04 Jun 2025Updated 10:39, 04 Jun 2025 While we, of course,
don't want to speak too soon or be in danger of tempting fate, the weather outlook for the weekend is looking pretty decent, meaning that a trip to the beach could well be on the cards.
And if you're not a fan of sharing the sands with large crowds of other people, there is a spot in Northumberland that is one of the area's best kept secrets. Regular readers of
CHRONICLELIVE will attest to the fact that we love a beach, with us writing about them on a regular basis, whether it be about the fact they're bathing waters have been awarded a
coveted Blue Flag, the beach has been championed by national or even international experts, or has had a celebrity visitor or two. The latter means that the likes of Bamburgh, Longsands in
Tynemouth and Sandhaven in South Shields often get the lion's share of attention, with Harrison Ford, Sandro Tonali and Perrie Edwards all fans of those respective beaches, but one we
haven't written about so far is Rumbling Kern. Located right next to Howick, a village that has also been talked up as one of Northumberland's real hidden gems itself, Rumbling
Kern is one of the lesser known and trickier to find beaches in the area, not helped by the fact that, it doesn't even show up on Google Maps! Rumbling Kern gets it name from a hole in
the rocks that rumbles loudly when the waves crash through it during high tide and, if you head there you can't fail to notice an old bathing house that was actually built centuries ago
for Earl Grey and his family, including his SIXTEEN children! While the beach itself, south of Cullernose Point and not too far from Craster, isn't recognised by Google, the best
postcode to put into your SatNav to get as close as possible is NE66 3LH, which will take you to a nearby farm where you'll need to park, before walking the rest of the way to get onto
the beach. Although it isn't written about an awful lot, Rumbling Kern has landed on the radar of travel enthusiasts with The Crave Traveler calling it 'England's best kept
secret' as well as highlighting its potential as a great place to watch the sunrise, go exploring or relax and unwind with a picnic. Sticking with the 'secretive' theme, Visit
Northumberland describe Rumbling Kern, sheltered behind small cliffs, as 'a closely guarded secret amongst Northumberland coast connoisseurs' and 'perfect for a quiet
afternoon.'. And some tourists who have made the trip off the beaten track have also shared their thoughts, with one Trip Advisor quick to highlight the 'amazing scenery'
Rum,bling Kern is blessed with. Article continues below WE HAVE A DEDICATED NEWSLETTER FOR WHAT’S ON NEWS AND REVIEWS. IT’S FREE AND YOU CAN SIGN UP TO RECEIVE IT HERE. It will keep you up
