'NATURAL' SHORTFALL WHEN ORDERING LOGS SHOULD BE CHALLENGED WITH reference to the letter from Keith Walker about receiving less firewood than initially ordered (Connexion,
November), we also found that our delivery of wood last year was also a lot short of what we expected, plus had an inordinate amount of “white wood” in it. Various phone calls to the
supplier met with a similar response to that received by MrWalker: because we had ordered in half-metre lengths, there was a “natural” shortfall when the wood was delivered. Not receiving
any satisfaction, we then emailed all our English and French friends in the area warning them about this practice. To our surprise, a few weeks later the supplier rang us very apologetic
about not calling before. He then visited our property, agreed that there had been a mistake in the quantity of wood delivered and returned an hour later with another load. We have used the
same supplier this year, with no problems with either the quantity or quality of wood, and at a price of €59 a stère. The moral of this? Don’t just accept poor service, even in France. The
UK community has a lot of spending power and speaks to each other through various groups. There is safety in numbers. GRAHAM ELLIOTT BY EMAIL
