The DVSA has issued a stark warning to motorists to stay vigilant of the legal speeds, stating that it's "not always safe" to drive at the speed limit. Road users must abide

by the speed restrictions for their road type and vehicle class, as emphasised by the government. "The speed limit is the absolute maximum - it does not mean it's safe to drive at

this speed in all conditions," the Labour Party government website and DVSA have jointly cautioned. While the maximum speed limit on motorways stands at 70mph, for vehicles like cars,

motorcycles, car-derived vans, and dual-purpose vehicles towing caravans or trailers, the limit is reduced to 60mph. READ MORE: ALDI REVEALS FUTURE PLANS FOR ATHERSTONE DISTRIBUTION HUB SIGN

in length, and goods vehicles with a maximum laden weight over 7.5 tonnes in England and Wales. In built-up areas across England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, the default speed limit

holds at 30mph (48km/h), while in Wales it drops to 20mph (32km/h). This limit governs typical vehicles including cars, motorcycles, and dual-purpose vehicles not towing additional loads,

reports Birmingham Live. Moreover, when these vehicles do tow caravans or trailers, the prescribed speed limit remains at 30mph. The same speed cap applies to motorhomes or motor caravans

based on their maximum unladen weight, whether below or above 3.05 tonnes. The speed limit for buses, coaches and minibuses (not more than 12 metres overall length), buses, coaches and

minibuses (more than 12 metres overall length), goods vehicles (not more than 7.5 tonnes maximum laden weight), goods vehicles (more than 7.5 tonnes maximum laden weight) in England and

Wales and goods vehicles (more than 7.5 tonnes maximum laden weight) in Scotland is also 30mph. A speed limiter must be fitted on vehicles with more than 8 passenger seats, for example,

buses, minibuses, coaches, stretch limousines. It must also be installed on goods vehicles with a maximum laden weight of more than 3.5 tonnes. Speed limiters are designed to reduce

collisions. They limit the maximum speed of a vehicle by restricting the fuel supply to the engine. Having a speed limiter may mean that your vehicle cannot reach the speed limit.
