QUDSIYAH MAHMOOD FELL OVER THE PARAPET AT BAITINGS RESERVOIR, NEAR RIPPONDEN, WEST YORKSHIRE, AT AROUND 1.20PM ON WEDNESDAY DURING A HALF-TERM WALK WITH HER DAD 12:25, 31 May 2025 A
schoolgirl tragically lost her life after tumbling into a reservoir while snapping pictures with her father during a half-term stroll, and has now been identified. Qudsiyah Mahmood met with
the tragic accident at Baitings Reservoir, near Ripponden, around 1.20pm on Wednesday. Eyewitness accounts recall the 13 year old as having "a really bright future", who was
enjoying a half-term walk with her dad when she tragically fell over the parapet. Her father, visibly distressed, was later seen being taken away in an ambulance, seemingly in pain and
calling out for his daughter. The Regional Marine and Underwater Search police units conducted a thorough search of the reservoir, and sadly, the young girl's body was recovered on
Friday. Crossley Heath School in Halifax, where Qudsiyah was a student, received an email from headteacher Dean Jones expressing condolences. He remembered her as a "bright, kind and
friendly young person who brought happiness to our school". Mr Jones conveyed: "Our thoughts and prayers are very much with her family now and always.", reports the Mirror. He
assured that support would be available for Qudsiyah's classmates during this difficult time and that the school staff were ready to "here to listen and help" those affected
by the loss. Article continues below _JOIN THE __DAILY RECORD'S WHATSAPP COMMUNITY HERE__ AND GET THE LATEST NEWS SENT STRAIGHT TO YOUR MESSAGES._ He further stated: "I am ever so
sorry to share this news. However, as a school family I want you to know we are there side by side with Qudsiyah's family, all in our Crossley's school family and our community to
offer the best support we can." Witness Sue Ferris, 80, whose property has a view of Baitings Reservoir, offered solace to the family of the teenager on Wednesday afternoon, having
witnessed the heart-wrenching incident. She recounted: "The little girl was posing for photographs before this happened. Her dad had been taking the photographs. It is disgraceful that
there are no life buoy rings anywhere on the parapet. "Yorkshire Water added the white metal railings on top of the stone structure some years ago now," Mrs Ferris disclosed to the
Sun. She criticised the safety measures, saying, "But it only adds about half a foot to the barrier height and actually helps people to climb onto the wall. It gives them something to
grip on to. All it is doing, is helping people to stand on the wall." Mrs Ferris shared that the girl's relatives told her the young girl had wanted to take a walk around the
reservoir with her father during the school half-term break. "She had just got into grammar school, they told me. They were very proud of her. She had a really bright future," she
relayed. According to Mrs Ferris, the father was photographing his daughter when the tragedy struck, and another witness heard him desperately calling out her name as she fell into the
water. "Dad had been taking photographs, according to a witness, and he also heard dad screaming and shouting her name after she fell in - but he did not go into the water." It was
reported that the father, who suffered from a heart condition, was seen clutching his chest shortly after the incident and required medical attention. "He had some kind of heart
problem and was clutching his chest soon afterwards and was taken away by ambulance." Article continues below _DON'T MISS THE LATEST NEWS FROM AROUND SCOTLAND AND BEYOND - SIGN UP
