RACHEL MCGUIGAN AND HER HUSBAND DAVID DECIDED TO RESERVE THEIR SUNBEDS WITH TOWELS BEFORE GOING OFF TO BREAKFAST - BUT IT SEEMS NOT EVERYONE WAS HAPPY WITH THEIR DECISION 11:53, 04 Jun
2025Updated 11:54, 04 Jun 2025 A couple from York have hit back at critics after they were slammed for reserving sunbeds with towels during a breakfast break on their Turkish getaway. Rachel
McGuigan and her hubby David, who both work in the water gardening biz, were soaking up the sun with pals Adam and Hayley. The holidaymakers stayed at The Residence Hotel in Fethiye, but
Rachel stirred up a storm when she chucked towels on their poolside loungers before heading off to scoff some brekkie. One miffed vacationer, Harry Crumb, didn't mince his words,
saying: "I just remove them, if full. I don't care and the hotel doesn't care." Another peeved guest suggested a more drastic measure: "Just throw the towels in the
pool. It's not allowed to do this in most hotels and resorts." Yet, someone else jumped to the couple's defence, remarking: "I don't understand. I thought it was
normal to get up, grab your towels, pop them on your bed then go for breakfast." Rachel opened up to What's The Jam about the towel tiff, expressing her shock at the backlash for
merely leaving a towel for a quick bite: "They accused me of being selfish and all sorts.", reports the Mirror. Article continues below Not one to shy away from controversy, Rachel
took to her 'Holidays and Hangovers' TikTok page to share her side of the story. She even cheekily fanned the flames by posting a spoof video where she nips out at 5.30am to plant
towels on loungers, pretending to head off on a string of bogus day trips until nightfall. The gag was that they never actually lounged on the sunbeds they nabbed at the crack of dawn. In
her video, Rachel showed a screenshot of a peeved punter's message which said: "Really annoys me that people put towels on sunbeds then go away somewhere? Why? Everyone wants to
enjoy their holiday." She cheekily captioned her post: "Fine, you've all caught me out, this is how our day really looked.." But loads of miffed Brits didn't get the
jest and swarmed her comments section once again. One ticked-off holidaymaker blasted: "So you reserved the beds and didn't use them but wouldn't let anyone else use them?
Have you ever thought that you may be the problem?". Another fumed: "You go on holiday for a rest but end up getting up early like you do at home just to put towels out. Hotels are
not for me, that's why I Airbnb, not having a go, just saying." A third quipped: "The most council estate thing ever!" while Craig chimed in with: "Some people
ain't getting the joke, love it!". After stirring the pot, Rachel clarified: "After the first time, I thought it would be funny to play up to it. It was a joke and I
didn't expect anyone to take it seriously, but I ended up opening a can of worms about sunbed reservations!". Article continues below She continued: "We went to The Residence
in Fethiye for two weeks in May for the second year running. "There wasn't a shortage of sunbeds so chucking our towels down before brekkie wasn't bothering anyone. I was
gobsmacked by all the fuss in the comments." Rachel confessed that it's a bit of a bother when holidaymakers hog sunbeds by leaving their towels on them "for hours on
end". However, she reckons it's no biggie if it's "only for half an hour and someone stays with them".
