spanish design firm papila studio has developed ‘mini jungle’, a new range of children’s animal-shaped sorbets for food company helados alacant. the designers used four different animal
models to create the ice pops and coated the latter with strawberry, orange, lemon, and pineapple flavorings — resulting in finely crafted and colorful desserts for the little ones to enjoy.
the sorbets are currently distributed within the ice cream range of a leading supermarket chain in europe and are present in thirty countries around the world.
the production process begins by inserting the sorbet into stainless steel molds, freezing it, then inserting a stick to extract the shape in one direction. ‘it involves numerous
restrictions in terms of departure angles, edge rounding, minimum/maximum diameters, volume, and/or fragility in details,‘ clarifies the papilo studio team. the designers have indeed pushed
the limit of the modeling process to obtain a highly detailed shape that would facilitate extraction from the mold at the required angles/diameters and retain the desired shape after the
coating bath.
the mini sorbets come in four different animal shapes and flavored coatings
beside papila studio’s finely crafted design of the mini sorbets, product quality is also optimized with the incorporation of natural colorings and flavorings, the reduction of sugars, and
the replacement of plastic sticks with wooden ones. overall, ‘mini jungle’ echoes a more conscious — and aesthetically pleasing — approach to children’s snacks.
