One person was rescued by the army. Tragedy hit Indian army on Friday when a massive avalanche swept away their post killing three soldiers and injuring another along the Line of Control
(LoC) in Machil sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district. The incident occurred in late afternoon when a massive snow avalanche buried four soldiers who were manning a strategic post at
the Sonapindi Gali along the LoC in the Machil sector. Indian army rescuers launched a swift operation to locate the soldiers. However one of the soldiers died on the spot while two
succumbed while being evacuated to the hospital. Another soldier was injured in the incident and he has been referred to hospital for treatment. “Today in an unfortunate incident of
avalanche in Machil sector, the Army lost three valiant soldiers”, said an army spokesman at Srinagar. Indian army clarified that no soldier is missing in the avalanche. There is one injured

Indian army soldiers were swept away by the massive snow avalanches at two different sectors along the Line of Control (LoC) in Bandipora and Kupwara districts of North Kashmir. This is
also the third avalanche to have hit Kashmir valley this year so far. Eleven people including an official of Border Roads Organization (BRO’s) Project Beacon were killed after massive
avalanches struck at two different places on the high altitude Sadhana Top along the strategic Srinagar-Tangdhar highway in North Kashmir's Kupwara district on January 5. Three people
were pulled out alive from the thick snow cover near the avalanche site on the highway On January 18, a Swedish skier was killed in a massive avalanche that struck the Apharwat area in the
upper reaches of famed winter resort of Gulmarg. Another skier however was rescued by the joint rescue team.
