Around 10,000 teachers from across the state participated in the agitation. Over 600 professors participated in a ‘jail bharo’ agitation on Monday morning. Led by the Maharashtra Federation


of University College Teachers’ Union (MFUCTU), the teachers protested against issues related to the Sixth Commission payscale, and National Eligibility Test and State Eligibility Test


regulations.  The teachers first met inside the Mumbai University (MU) campus, and had a protest meeting at the lawns. “Then, when we were coming out, we were arrested by the Azad Maidan


police. The police record shows a total of 650 arrests, but there were more teachers than that,” said Madhu Paranjpe, president of the Bombay University College Teachers’ Union (BUCTU).
