Juvenile send to remand home for killing 21-yr-old in September 2011. The Chinchwad police claimed to have solved the death of 21-year-old Pritam Raut in September 2011. Raut was found dead

with severe head injuries and an accidental death case was registered at that time. However, further investigations revealed that it was murder and the police have detained an 18-year-old,

who had beaten Raut to death after the latter had taunted him of his involvement in some petty thefts in the area. The detained youth (name withheld) was 17 years old at the time of

committing the crime and has currently been sent to remand home. The cops got a breakthrough when Raut’s friend Amit Lagas, who was an eye-witness in the case, told the police that it was

not an accidental death but murder by the juvenile. According to the complaint filed in 2011, it was stated that Raut was admitted to the hospital after he fainted due to a fit attack on

September 4, 2011. He had received severe head injuries following the fit and later succumbed on September 7, 2011. Deputy commissioner of police (zone III) Shahaji Umap told DNA, “After the

death of Raut, the Chinchwad police had received a call from an unknown person saying that Raut had died due to thrashing. We sent the body for post-mortem but the report was inconclusive.

“Doctors told us that two surgeries had been performed on Raut for his injuries which were thought to be a result of epileptic fit. Hence, a case of accidental death was registered then.”

However, recently the deceased’s brother received a call from his friend Amit Lagas who confessed that Raut was thrashed by the detained youth which killed him. “The brother informed the

police who immediately reinvestigated the case and detained the youth who confessed during interrogation. The youth said following a verbal dispute, Raut fell down and started bleeding after

he hit him on his head with a blunt object. Amit was also present there and the duo took Raut to hospital, where they told the doctors that he had fallen after a fit,” said Umap.
