Scheme (TOPS) on Thursday, citing paucity of time as the reason. In a letter to TOPS chairman Anurag Thakur, Bindra said he was giving up his post as he was not able to devote
"meaningful time" to the committee. Bindra added he was busy preparing for the 2016 Rio Olympics and had "no time to spare". "I agreed to be a part of the TOPS
committee as I wanted to make a meaningful contribution to the scheme especially from the view of the athletes. Since I will have no time to spare during the next year to actively contribute
towards the scheme, I don't feel it appropriate to continue as a member on the committee," Bindra wrote in his letter. Bindra's sudden resignation from the elite
athletes' identification committee has come at a time when the sports ministry is witnessing a deluge of complaints about the poor implementation of the ambitious scheme, which was
rolled out last year to help the country's medal hopefuls prepare for next year's Olympics.
