Yesterday afternoon and again, this morning I was reminded of the importance of getting multiple people’s opinions about your resume. Basing your resume off of one person’s opinion or that
of your own can be a crucial error in the job search. This is when I tend to see resume’s that are not attractive or aligned, have spelling errors, undersell your qualifications or include
everything you have ever done! In the case of the person I worked with yesterday, she had received multiple opinions but tried to incorporate everyone’s thoughts into the resume. The result?
Her resume was three pages long. When I asked her if she would read her own resume, she said no. When I asked her what was interesting or noteworthy about what she had written on her
resume, she had difficulty identifying something. These are huge clues that something is amiss. So, who should you seek out? 1. Campus career services 2. Working teachers, especially those
in the school you would love to work in 3. Principals and other administrators who are involved in hiring 4. Teaching faculty (especially those who have been in the schools in recent years!)
5. Parents 6. A trusted friend And lastly, analyze everyone’s opinions because everyone will tell you something different and then make it your own! Suzanne Dagger Director of Career
