Minister Greg Hunt and Bass Liberal MHR Andrew Nikolic announced the solar communities program on Wednesday.
The program would provide grants of $100,000 for groups to install rooftop solar PV, solar hot water, and battery storage systems for community-owned buildings, Mr Nikolic said.
Mr Hunt said about 350 community groups were expected to benefit from the $5 million available.
