silverware could happen around 5pm Sunday should rival Hobart Zebras lose or even draw its round-19 game to Olympia Warriors.

Devonport finished with a routine 1-0 home win over Kingborough Lions at Valley Road on Saturday to strengthen the club’s title aspirations further.

The victory now pushes the Strikers out to an eight-point lead over the Zebras.

But a must-win result for the second-placed Hobart side on Sunday would be academic should the Strikers defeat the winless Northern Rangers next game.

Coach Peter Savill’s men weren’t leaving anything to chance in their last home hurrah for the season.

Amid three earlier attacking raids on the Lions goal, the competition leaders found the net to take the lead.

Brody Denehy, who was causing early concern for the Lions defence, linked up with Adam Gorrie on a cross, who slid in to score inside the bottom left corner.

The Strikers continued to threaten well into the second half but couldn’t put the polish on the scoreboard.

The visitors finished down five shots on goal to four in a courageous fight.

But amassing 16 corners to the Lions’ one typified the Strokers dominance at the business end of the pitch.

Devonport has just four days’ rest before its placed under the national spotlight to face Lambton Jaffas at home in Wednesday’s FFA Cup first-round encounter.

THEN THERE WAS ONE: Devonport star Brayden Mann (left) was happy at the season launch in March next to City's Toby Omenshiu and Rangers' Nick
