Meander Valley’s best cycling routes, the challenge will see cyclists gather at Prospect Vale Park to help raise funds for New Horizons, a Launceston charity which helps those with a

disability get involved in sport.

New Horizons manager Belinda Kitto said riders could choose to tackle treks as short as a 24-kilometre return trip to Carrick, or as long as a 170-kilometre loop around Deloraine, Birralee

and Chudleigh.

“We've made it that way so people can progress through the rides, so a couple of years ago they might have started with the 24-kilometre and then they might have been able to work up to do

one of the longer events,” Mrs Kitto said.

“It’s beautiful through the Western Tiers countryside and we get lots of feedback each year that it’s a really lovely ride with all the scenery.

“We think that there's something there for everybody.”

About 250 cyclists completed last year’s challenge, which raised about $10,000.

“Our teams challenge is where businesses and sporting clubs can get together and the team that gets the most kilometres wins the perpetual trophy, so that's really good fun and a bit of

competition.”

Mrs Kitto stressed that all funds raised through the challenge went directly to charity.

“We've got some great sponsors on board and those sponsorships cover our running costs, so every dollar that comes in from people entering the ride goes straight to local charities.

“New Horizons Club is the main charity involved… and also some of the funds go to our partners Youngtown Rotary which they disperse through their chosen charities.”

The challenge features rides spanning 24, 52, 76, 100, 120 and 170 kilometres.

Entries are $40 each and can be made on the day or online at www.tascyclechallenge.org.au
