Employment Accelerator program has been developed by StGiles and Illuminate Education founder Adam Mostogl.
StGiles’ business design and development director Kirsty Bartlett-Clark said some of the ideas were “mind blowing”.
“We don’t see disabilities as barriers and interestingly when we asked these guys they don’t see it as a barrier either,” she said.
Three students participating in the pilot program have aspergers syndrome. More than 40 people are expected to participate in the program’s first year.
Participant Bradley Mitchell is developing an app to help digitalise learner driver log books.
“I just thought we’re coming into a digital age, so why not do it to get rid of the paper,” he said.
Mr Mostogl said it was an idea that “just had to happen”.
“One of the interesting conversations that we’ve had is that it’s not just for l and p drivers, but for businesses. They could use this to track things aswell,” he said.
Ms Bartlett-Clark said his idea addressed “a lot of issues”.
Henry Coulson is also participating in the program.
“Henry is looking how he can translate his passion for weather into a way which the rest of us can easily understand,” Ms Bartlett-Clark said.
“He already does something around weather in the community, so it’s about looking at how he can make money from it now.”
The third participant is Bohdi Man Diwali. He is learning to speak English and wants to use his background in construction and passion for driving to create his ideas.
At the end of the five-day program, the participants will pitch their ideas to the Launceston business community.
