Join us on WhatsAppA driver took immediate action when he saw a couple dumping rubbish at a moorland beauty spot.
Niall Howard pulled over and confronted the couple as they unloaded an old sofa and chairs from a van on Wessenden Head Road on the moors above Meltham, Huddersfield.
Niall said he was 'disgusted' by the fly-tipping and told the couple to put the rubbish back in the van, which he had blocked in. The couple complied with his request and the man
did say 'I'm sorry' at one point. Niall videoed the incident and has now passed information to West Yorkshire Police. The incident happened at around 3pm on Monday, June 2.
Niall, a conservation worker who used to live in Meltham, said fly-tipping was one of his pet hates and he was determined to take action to stop people ruining such a beautiful part of
Huddersfield.
Niall said the road had become a fly-tipping hotspot, with old tyres, TVs, furniture and other litter being dumped recently. Local people have been keeping an eye on the area and reporting
incidents.
Niall said: "As I was coming down Wessenden Head Road I noticed the white van had pulled up and two people throwing furniture onto the side of the road, so I stopped and confronted them.
"I'm always vigilant for rubbish dumping, as it's something that is increasingly getting worse in the countryside all over the UK.
"Once the video stopped, the male was very adamant that I deleted the video. I just refused to delete it and then drove away and then sent the evidence to the rural crime police."

He added: "I am originally from Meltham and there moors are somewhere to be proud of; they are a beautiful part of the country. I don't want them to become a skip."
West Yorkshire Police is understood to be investigating.
Niall uploaded the video to a local Facebook page called Meltham - Keep us in the know page, where local people expressed their anger and disgust at the tippers, and congratulated Niall on
his public-spirited actions.
One woman said: "Well done you. Set of scrotes."
Another said: "Hope the scumbags get a massive fine."
One woman posted: "Good on you Niall for challenging."
