Bedding is much more likely to become stained and discoloured during the winter as people are less inclined to do big washes since it is more difficult to get your laundry dry.

However, it is incredibly important to keep up with the washing at this time of year as people are more likely to sweat since they are using thicker and warmer duvets or pillows.

Sweat stains on bedding can become a hotspot for bacteria, but luckily Jahid Hasan, a cleaning expert from Hamlet Laundry has shared keeping your bed items clean is easy with one natural

item.

Jahid said: “Lemon juice isn’t just for your tea—it’s a natural bleach that can make your whites even whiter.

“The citric acid in lemon juice works as a gentle bleaching agent, helping to lift stains and brighten fabrics without the harshness of traditional chemical bleaches.”

It may sound strange, but the acid in lemon juice has natural antibacterial properties which not only can kill germs but break down organic stains such as sweat.

It can also prevent mould and mildew from forming on your bedding which is very useful in the wintertime when laundry is more at risk if it is not dried properly.

This is not only environmentally safe and cheap but incredibly effective and is a quick way to remove stains so your bedding looks cosy during the frostiest time of the year.

Jahid added: “Lemon juice has the power to break down and remove some of the toughest stains. The natural acidity of lemon juice works to dissolve stains at their source, making it a

powerful, yet gentle, stain remover.”

Simply apply lemon juice directly to the stained areas, and for tough stains make sure to use freshly squeezed lemon juice as it will be more potent.

After applying the lemon juice, sprinkle some salt on the stain as well then leave it to sit for at least 30 minutes which will give the cleaning solution more time to break down the stain.

Then you can simply wash your bedding as usual on a normal cycle and then hang it up to dry.

If you wish to also brighten your bedding then also pour lemon juice directly into the detergent dispenser of your washing machine.

If you can, hang your bedding outside as sunlight can also naturally lighten fabric and help remove stains.

Jahid said: “The combination of lemon juice and sunlight acts as a powerful natural bleaching duo, enhancing the whitening effect and leaving your clothes looking their best.”

Your bedding will not only look amazing but will be fully washed and stain-free so you can keep comfortable and warm during the cold winter evenings.
