A teenage girl has died in a horrific car crash that occurred amid a police pursuit.


The Vauxhall Vectra failed to stop as it was being pursued in Baildon, West Yorkshire. 


An 18-year-old girl, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was sadly declared dead shortly after the crash. Five others have also sustained injuries. 


A 21 year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, police have confirmed.

Police are also questioning a 26-year-old male in connection with the devastating crash. 


West Yorkshire Police confirmed a referral has been made to the IOPC (Independent Office for Police Conduct).


In a statement, the West Yorkshire Police force said: "An 18 year-old-woman who was a passenger in the vehicle died after the silver Vauxhall Vectra she was in overturned on Baildon Road


near Pasture Road at around 11.47pm last night (January 3).


"The road is currently closed whilst investigation work takes place.


"The vehicle involved failed to stop for police and was being pursued by police at the time of the collision."


Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to call on 101 quoting log 1802 of January 3.
