A prison warden had secret phone sex with an inmate and even met his mum, a court has heard. Ruth Shmylo, 26, is accused of having an “inappropriate relationship” with an inmate at the
Category B Parc Prison in Wales.
She joined the prison in August 2020 and is accused of beginning a relationship with Harri Pullen - who is in prison for his part in a drug gang - in December.
He gave her the number of a secret phone he had in prison and the pair called “daily” and would have phone sex, prosecutors allege.
Shmylo said she “felt pressure” to call him and “felt trapped”, with Pullen referring to her as his “Mrs” and even arranged for her to meet his mum, the court heard.
She even submitted two intelligence reports in respect of Harri Pullen.

Defence barrister Ms Wilks said: “She named him and said people were suggesting things were going on between her and Harri, on September 28, 2020.”
Officers are encouraged to self report rumours that can be made by prisoners.
Ms Wilks said: “She self reported a rumour about her and Harri Pullen and ended it with ‘I’m happy to speak about this with anyone if needed’. No or little action was taken by Harri Pullen
at all.”
The alleged relationship was revealed when Shmylo left Parc Prison and the inmate was moved to HMP Manchester and their phone calls were recorded.
He asked her to tell him she loved him, which she refused to do, and told her he “missed her face”, Cardiff County Court heard.

Jurors were also told that Shmylo said Pullen would contact her “pretty much every single day” and threatened to harm another prisoner if she stopped taking his calls.
In his opening, prosecutor Matthew Cobbe said: “The prosecution case is that she, Ms Shmylo, did not make any real effort to prevent or bring to an end or stop that relationship with that
inmate while in Parc.
“She on more than one occasion tried to bring their relationship to an end, however the very fact she tried to bring that relationship to an end is of course evidence she was in an
inappropriate relationship with that inmate at the important time.”
The head of security at Parc Prison told Smylo that due to concerns about professional boundaries between herself and prisoners and perceived interaction with prisoners, she did not pass her
probationary period, the court heard.
She was released from her employment in April 2021 and was arrested in July.
Ms Shmylo, from Pontypridd, denies misconduct in a public office. The trial continues.
