Chaos has erupted at a major UK airport after all flights were grounded due to an IT issue.
Flights to and from Edinburgh Airport have been suspended for almost two hours today.
A spokesperson for the airport said: "Due to an IT issue with Air Traffic Control no flights are currently taking off or landing.
"Engineers are working to resolve the issue. Passengers should check their flight status with their airline before travelling to the airport."
Issues started to take place shortly after 2pm today with at least 30 flights cancelled out of the 150 scheduled to depart this evening.
Flights to destinations including Amsterdam, Cologne and Berlin have been delayed or rescheduled.
In a later update on Sunday afternoon, the airport said engineers are “continuing to work” on the IT issue.
According to eyewitness accounts in the Edinburgh Reporter, every car parking space has been filled and passengers are frantically trying to find a spot inside the airport to wait for
further information.
The chaos comes before the planned disruptions that are expected to take place from Wednesday. On the 18, North Air fuel tanker drivers are planning to strike over a pay dispute, walking out
for three weeks during the crucial Christmas period.
The strike led by unite will begin at 5am on December 18, lasting until January 6.
