Adebolajo, who is currently awaiting trial for the murder of drummer Lee Rigby, was assaulted in Belmarsh on Wednesday. Last night it was reported that he had been “targeted” by some
officers at the London prison. It has since emerged that if Adebolajo, one of Britain’s most heavily guarded prisoners, can prove he suffered injuries that could have been prevented, he
could claim for up to £20,000 compensation, according to reports. The Prison Service declined to comment on claims over the nature of the attack. A spokesman said: “The police are investing
an incident that took place at HMP Belmarsh on July 17. It would be inappropriate to comment while the investigation was ongoing.” Former prison governor Carlton Boyce, speaking to The
Mirror newspaper, said: “It is entirely possible that he will try to take action. "Suing the prison service seems to be the default position for prisoners.” Adebolajo, 28, is accused
with Michael Adebowale, 22, of killing Fusilier Rigby near Woolwich Barracks, south-east London, on May 22. They are expected to stand trial on November 18. Last week Fusilier Rigby was
honoured with a full military funeral attended by 800 mourners. After his death thousands of tributes were left at the scene.
