Police were called to Eggbuckland Community College in Plymouth, Devon, at 8.40am in response to reports that a student had been stabbed.

The 15-year-old was taken to Derriford Hospital with a back injury, which is not thought to be life-threatening.

Officers arrested a 14-year-old boy, also a student at the school, on suspicion on causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Superintendent Chris Singer, of Devon and Cornwall Police, said the suspect had been taken into police custody.

"We are investigating the circumstances of this incident and would like to reassure people that there is no danger to anyone else," Supt Singer said.

"The alleged weapon that was used has been seized and the suspect has been arrested."

A statement on Eggbuckland Community College's website said: "There was an incident today involving two Eggbuckland Community College students, which resulted in injury for one student.

"He was immediately taken to hospital and has since been discharged and is now currently at home with his family.

"All staff were alerted immediately and the College Principal has been in regular contact with the parents of both students concerned.

"In order to reassure as many students as possible, the College has also posted messages to their social media feeds.

"The parents of those students who witnessed the incident have been notified and appropriate professional support and care is being provided for the small number of students affected."

Tom Daley was pulled out of the school in April 2009 by his parents after bullying allegedly escalated to the point where fellow pupils threatened to break the Olympic diver's legs. The

school at the time said it was unaware of any bullying.
