The Walthamstow MP said: “It’s little wonder that one study shows that 15 per cent of homeless people have pulled their own teeth out.”
Charity Groundswell researched more than 260 homeless people in London last year.
Ms Creasy said: “Will the minister meet me to look at what we can do to change this and make sure that her promises aren’t toothless.”
Health Minister Jackie Doyle-Price agreed to the meeting and added: “I agree with her, notwithstanding what expectations we have of GPs and dentists in this area, it is quite clear that
homeless people are not always getting access to the treatment that they should have.”
Following Ms Creasy’s comments, the British Dental Association joined calls for action.
Charlotte Waite, chairwoman of England Community Dental Services, said: “Current policy on NHS dentistry is failing vulnerable patients.”
