Most of the country will see a bright start to the working week before a band of showers will drop down into the southeast of the country by the early part of the afternoon. Following a

fairly blustery and mild weekend Monday afternoon will see lighter winds. A band of light rain and cloudy weather will cover most of the country on Tuesday before a cold blast brings the

temperatures down below the seasonal average.  Commenting on the weather outlook, Met Office meteorologist Mark Wilson said: “Many of us will have a dry and bright start to the new working

week with some sunshine. “But showers will continue to trap there way southwards throughout the day.” Many parts of central England will be clear for most of the afternoon but in the north

west of Scotland, thicker cloud will bring some light rain and possibly even snow. While Scotland will approach freezing temperatures on Monday afternoon most of England and Wales will see

figures approaching 9C. READ MORE: MONDAY MORNING SNOW AND WINDCHILL TEMPS AS LOW AS MINUS 24C Mr Wilson added the north east of Scotland will remain cold before a band of cloudy and

slightly wet weather will tumble down the country as the UK goes into Tuesday. The cloud cover will remain through Tuesday with some areas in the east managing to get some clear weather. A

band of persistent rain will continue to hover over the northern parts of Scotland with rainfall totals “continuing” to mount up. For most parts of England and Wales it will be a very mild

day, as temperatures hit 10C to continue some of the milder weather that has hit the country over the last few days. READ MORE: US WEATHER CHAOS: DRIVERS STRANDED AS SNOW HITS MIDWEST Mr

Wilson added: “That weather front will get pushed away going into Wednesday. “Behind that we tap into some more colder northerly winds which will bring temperatures back down to below the

seasonal average. “A ridge of high pressure will bring a generally dry and bright day going in Thursday.” As the week goes on the weather will gradually get colder with a return to frost

following a fairly mild spell for this time of year.
