Up to 3cm (1.2inches) of heavy snow from the Atlantic could fall during the week.

The snow may cause disruptions of the road, as well as delays or cancellation on trains and flights.
Villages and rural areas could lose power as the brutal snow traps them from the outside world.

He said: “We have this band of rain going up through the Irish Sea, bringing rain, sleet and hill snow with it, mainly to parts of Northern Ireland, southern Scotland and possibly northern
Wales.
“During the latter part of the day an area of low pressure continues its way further eastwards and as it runs into colder air through overnight period it will start to turn more readily into
snow.“There is already a yellow snow warning out for parts of central and southeastern England, with two to three centimetres of snow expected quite widely and possibly five to ten
centimetres over some higher ground.”

Public Health England and the Met Office raised their cold weather alert to level three (amber) this morning.
This means the adverse weather could pose a danger to life to people in the UK.
The amber alert will last until 9am on Friday for the North West, North East and Yorkshire and the Humber.Public Health England said: “Prolonged periods of cold weather can be dangerous,
especially for the very young, very old or those with chronic diseases.”
BBC weather presenter Simon King added the South East of England is at “particular risk” of heavy snow tonight and tomorrow morning.
He tweeted: “Most of the UK is under a yellow @metoffice warning for #snow and #ice for tomorrow and Wed morning.
“It’s a fine balance on how much snow you’ll see in the N & W but after dark, the SE is at particular risk.”
