BBC commissioned three more seasons of Call the Midwife - season seven, eight and nine. Since the news was announced, only two series of the three have aired with season eight wrapping up on

March, 3.  The BBC has commissioned an additional two seasons, confirming Call the Midwife will air until 2022. The channel has also confirmed that filming for series nine of Call The

Midwife is about to start and will return in 2020. The BBC has announced that series eight of Call the Midwife was the highest rating returning drama across all channels in 2019. Pippa

Harris, Executive Producer for Neal Street Productions, said: “We are delighted and humbled by the continued warmth of the audience response to Call the Midwife. "It’s a testament to

the extraordinary creativity of Heidi Thomas who pours her heart and soul into every episode. We are thrilled that the BBC have put such faith in the show by commissioning two more series

and can’t wait to watch our wonderful cast and crew tackling all the social and medical changes which the swinging sixties will bring.” Heidi Thomas, Creator, Writer and Executive Producer,

said: “Even after all these years, it still feels as though Call the Midwife has more truth to tell, more tears to cry, more life to celebrate, and more love to give. We are blessed with the

best cast, crew, and audience a show could wish for, and I could not be more excited about our future.” Charlotte Moore, Director of BBC Content, says: “Everyone at the BBC is delighted

we’re welcoming the nurses of Nonnatus House back for another two series and we’re all looking forward to following our cast through the tumultuous years of the late sixties. "I’d like

to thank the wonderful cast and crew, and particularly Heidi, Pippa and Ann for their continued creative ambition and dedication to such a very special show." Call The Midwife first

graced our screens in 2012 and has gone onto become an award-winning drama. WHERE IS CALL THE MIDWIFE FILMED? Heidi Thomas, creator, executive producer and writer of Call The Midwife said in

a statement: “I am hugely excited by the prospect of creating three more series of Call The Midwife. “In the 1960s Britain was a country fizzing with change and challenge, and there is so

much rich material — medical, social, and emotional — to be explored. “We have now delivered well over one hundred babies on screen, and like those babies, the stories keep on coming! “Above

all else, it is an incredible privilege to work on a show that is made with such care and received with such love.“ The BBC has confirmed that there will be eight episodes of Call The

Midwife season nine, each 60 minutes long. There will also be a Christmas special in 2019 and 2020. Speaking to The Sun, Helen George who plays Nurse Trixie in the medical drama confirmed

there would be ninth series and the 2019 Christmas special will begin filming in two weeks. She said: “We are doing another series. We film for six months, so it's a really nice amount

of time, you're completely knackered by the end of it, around 12 hours days on set. “And we start again in two weeks time, filming the Christmas special. Christmas is coming! “It's

mad but I'm looking forward to it because we don't see each other. You see each other all the time for six months and then you have a break.” WHO IS IN THE CAST OF CALL THE

MIDWIFE? Pippa Harris, the Executive Producer for Neal Street Productions, said: “Like a truly supportive parent, the BBC has nurtured our series from conception onwards, and this

exceptional three-series commission further demonstrates their care and commitment. “It's a testament too to the passion, skill and creativity of Heidi Thomas, and to the dedication,

talent and brilliance of our cast and crew.” Charlotte Moore, Director of BBC Content added: “I’m privileged to have Britain’s most popular drama series on BBC One, and this new three-series

commission underlines our commitment to the show. “Call The Midwife continues to raise the bar with each new series and is really valued by audiences. “The quality and ambition of the

storytelling is credit to the excellence of writer Heidi Thomas, who has successfully brought the show into the 1960s with a diverse range of subjects.” Piers Wenger, Controller of BBC Drama

commented:“Over the last six series Heidi Thomas and Neal Street Productions have grown Call The Midwife from a Sunday night hit into a drama phenomenon. “It has rewarded its large and

loyal audience by increasing its scope and ambition from series to series and I am thrilled that BBC Drama will be its home for a further, stellar, three years.“ WHO IS ANNETTE CROSBIE? WHAT
