Game of Thrones has seen a number of people try and fail to take the Iron Throne but only four people have ruled Westeros in the HBO series - so far. Robert Baratheon (played by Mark Addy),
Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson), Tommen Baratheon (Dean-Charles Chapman) and Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) have all been the kings and queens of Westeros during the seven seasons of Game
of Thrones so far. Aerys Targaryen (David Rintoul) was the king on the Iron Throne in the lead-up to the first season of the HBO and Sky Atlantic series. WHO HAS RULED WESTEROS IN GAME OF
THRONES? AERYS TARGARYEN Aerys Targaryen, AKA ‘The Mad King’, was the ruler of Westeros assassinated by ‘the Kingslayer’ Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau). The claim to the throne of
Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) stems from Aerys, as she is his last living child. Aerys was killed during Robert’s Rebellion, in which his subjects rebelled over his cruel and erratic
behaviour, which brought an end to three centuries of Targaryen rule over the Seven Kingdoms. ROBERT BARATHEON Robert Baratheon led the rebellion that took Aerys off the Iron Throne, and so
took over Westeros when The Mad King fell. He was a drunk in a loveless marriage with Cersei Lannister, who had three children who Robert thought were his but were actually Jaime’s. His
death following a hunting accident led to the War of the Five Kings, as questions over the legitimacy of his children empowered other people with a claim to the Throne to fight for it.
JOFFREY BARATHEON Joffrey became the king following the death of his legal father Robert. He was challenged for the Throne by Robert’s two brother Stannis (Stephen Dillance) and Renly
(Gethin Anthony) as well as ‘King of the Iron Islands’ Balon Greyjoy (Patrick Malahide) and Robb Stark (Richard Madden), who tries to claim the Iron Throne in revenge for the death of his
father Eddard (Sean Bean). WHICH SEASONS OF GAME OF THRONES HAVE THE MOST SEX? He was known for his cruel and sadistic tendencies, characterised by an obsession with crossbows and
decapitating his enemies and putting their heads on pikes. His death came not at the hands of any of the people trying to take over rule of Westeros but at the hands of Olenna Tyrell (Diana
Rigg), who poisoned him to prevent him marrying her daughter Margaery (Natalie Dormer). TOMMEN BARATHEON Margery therefore ended up marrying the more even-tempered second son of Cersei,
Tommen. In his reign, he had to deal with the Faith of the Seven, a puritanical religious group who he had to concede to after they imprisoned Cersei, Margaery and her brother Loras (Finn
Jones). HOW THE TARGARYENS CAME TO RULE WESTEROS However, his reign ended in suicide after he found out his wife had died in a wildfire explosion which, unbeknownst to him, was orchestrated
by his mother. CERSEI LANNISTER With the third of her children dead (her daughter Myrcella, played by Nell Tiger Free was also poisoned), Cersei took the Iron Throne. Her main threats come
from the army headed up by Daenerys and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) one the one side and the army of the dead that answers to the Night King (Vladimir Furdik) on the other. Game of Thrones
fans, however, will have to tune into season eight to find out whether she can hold Westeros. _GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8 STARTS MONDAY, APRIL 15 AT SKY ATLANTIC_ _This article contains
