After spending more than 30 years as Hollywood's most famous puppet power couple, Miss Piggy made it clear that she initiated the shock split with her former frog beau. Kermit and Miss
Piggy broke the news of their "difficult" decision in joint statements on Facebook. "After careful thought, thoughtful consideration and considerable squabbling, Miss Piggy
made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship," it read. "We will continue to work together on television (The Muppets/Tuesdays 8pm this fall on ABC) and in
all media now known or hereafter devised, in perpetuity, throughout the universe. "However, our personal lives are now distinct and separate, and we will be seeing other people, pigs,
frogs, et al. This is our only comment on this private matter. Thank you for your understanding." The devastating news sent "Miss Piggy" trending on Twitter this morning, and
many celebrities mourned the latest break-up in the showbiz world. Radio DJ Christian O'Connell said: "First Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, now Kermit and Miss Piggy, please
Jonathan and Jennifer Hart never split up #freeway." Producer Ian Chaloner joked: "I can't believe Kermit and Miss Piggy broke up. I guess the relationship croaked when they
decided they couldn't kermit to each other anymore." American designer Marc Jacobs tweeted a photo of him and the trend-setting pig with the heartfelt message: "Saddened over
the news of Kermit & Miss Piggy splitting up. Retail therapy is real." While actor Alan Cumming said: "I'm actually really sad that Miss Piggy and Kermit have split up.
Hoping it's just a publicity gimmick for the new Muppets show." While the aptly-timed break may strike cynics as a publicity stunt to garner attention for the Muppets TV remake,
Miss Piggy took to Twitter to blast critics. She said: "As much as moi loves a good publicity stunt, this is not one. Let your cute, single friends know, 'kay?" The Muppets,
created by Jim Henson in the 1950s, is getting a revival which will follow the iconic characters behind-the-scenes of Miss Piggy's new late-night show, shot in a mockumentary manner.
