Man city 5 - huddersfield 1: guardiola's side come from behind

Last week in the Champions League they scored five and conceded three. This time in the FA Cup they hit five and conceded one – and once again did it the hard way. Former City youngster

Harry Bunn gave Huddersfield a shock early lead but City stormed back with two goals from the rejuvenated Sergio Aguero – one a penalty - and one each from Leroy Sane, Pablo Zabaleta and

Kelechi Iheanacho to earn a quarter-final trip to Middlesbrough. The one big negative for City was more scrutiny for keeper Claudio Bravo who was beaten far too easily by Bunn’s shot. And

Pep Guardiola, right, who has said there is no chance of a recall for Joe Hart this summer – was clearly unimpressed when fans cheered ironically when he later saved a couple of shots.

Huddersfield, whose boss  David Wagner had to sit in the stands as he started a two-game touchline ban, may have stopped City from scoring in the first game but they had no answer last night

as City took their tally in the FA Cup to 12 following bigs wins over West Ham and Crystal Palace. It is not often in the cup these days the Premier League club makes fewer changes than

their lower division Championship opponents. But City made only four while Huddersfield, with one eye on the top-of-the-table clash with Newcastle on Saturday, made nine. And that included

leaving their  leading scorers, Nahki Wells and Elias Kachunga on the bench. But it did not stop them from taking an unexpected lead after only seven minutes from former City youth player

Bunn. The goal raised further question marks over Bravo’s shot-stopping ability as well as City’s porous defence. Joe Lolley broke through with a surging run from halfway, Philip Billing

helped the ball on and Bunn was left with time and space to fire in a shot that didn’t carry great power but still managed to find its way through Bravo’s body. City had started on the front

foot with Sane sending a thunderous effort against the post and Aguero having a shot saved by Joel Coleman. And after the Terriers goal, they stepped up the attacking bombardment. They

should have had a penalty when Jon Stankovic clearly handled as he slid into a challenge on Kevin De Bruyne but referee Paul Tierney waved aside the appeals. Stankovic got away with another

handball, this time from Raheem Sterling’s cut back and City had to wait until the half hour mark to ease their frustrations – and then hit three goals in eight minutes. Sane tapped in the

first after Sterling had taken De Bruyne’s glorious crossfield pass in his stride and cut the ball back. Stankovic may have got away with two handling incidents but it was third time unlucky

when he was penalised for grappling Aguero to the ground. Aguero sent Coleman the wrong way from the spot and then the Argentine cut the ball back for Zabaleta to tap home the third. Just

before half-time, there were ironic cheers from City fans when the under-fire Bravo saved Jack Payne’s shot. The second half continued in the same breathless fashion as the first 45 minutes

with chances at both ends. Sane wasted a chance when  put through by Aguero but his touch was so poor it ran into Coleman’s hands. There were no thoughts of damage limitation in the  minds of

Huddersfield’s players.  Llolley headed a good chance over the bar and then  Collin Quaner tumbled in the box after being clipped by John Stones but Tierney waved aside appeals. Coleman

saved a De Bruyne free-kick but could do nothing about Aguero’s second in the 74th minute from Sterling’s cross before Iheanacho completed the scoring. MAN CITY (4-1-4-1): Bravo; Zabaleta,
