Bidders wasted no time in setting a good pace for Limousins at last weekend’s special breed sale at Newark where the first lot in the ring, Westside Benedict, made the day’s top price of

4800gns.   From S and G A Potter’s herd at Thirsk, North Yorkshire, the 2006-bred Benedict is by the French sire Ocean and out of Broadmeadows Jiji. Benedict goes to Manby Farms, Grimsby.

Hazard and Sons at Grantham made 3100gns to A Hall, Darlington. By Imprudent and out of a Goldies Goldfinger dam, she was sold with a heifer calf at foot by Vaclav.   Gascoines Group, Whitby

took the two highest priced entries in the commercial section. The company paid £3000 for a Limousin-cross cow suckling twin heifer calves by the Limousin sire Lowshipley Universe and £2300
