James Blunt has offered a tongue-in-cheek explanation for the lyrics of his hit song You're Beautiful, which catapulted him to international stardom. Known for his lyrical prowess and
sharp wit, the 51-year-old singer-songwriter started his rise to fame with his 2004 debut single High from his first album, Back To Bedlam. However, it was a little later in 2005 that he
became a household name with release of You're Beautiful, the third single from the same album. Marking two decades since its release, James Blunt posted a video on his official
Facebook page expressing gratitude to his fans. In the video, Blunt approaches the camera in his home and quips: "20 years ago today, I put out a song that bought me this house."
He then jokingly continues: "I mean, who would have thought a song about being high as a kite on drugs, stalking someone else's girlfriend, would resonate quite so much? You guys
are beautiful." Music fans flocked to the comments section to share their personal connections and humorous takes on the song. One fan recounted: "My God you crack me up. I must
say though, this song was playing on the radio when I held my son in my arms for the first time (it was my favourite song at the time, he's 20 soon) and all I could hear was
'you're beautiful'. "He really was beautiful - my husband and I have laughed hard about the actual words and stalky-ness of the song since..." A third person
commented: "Lol when you put it that way a druggy stalker. Love your humour". Another individual remarked: "I got married in 2005 and the number of people who suggested it
should be our wedding song. "I was equal parts annoyed and smug because I knew what the lyrics were about". Meanwhile, an additional fan exclaimed: "lol! Never knew I needed
this explanation but apparently I did. Downloading the song now dude; buy yourself something sweet for the house". Indeed, the global sensation of a song does narrate the tale of a man
who, under the influence, believes he's connected to a woman on the train who is actually with someone else. As the song progresses, he concocts a plan to win her over in his obsessive
state before ultimately accepting he will never be able to have her. Despite the song's narrative, it didn't deter countless fans from being charmed by its haunting and emotive
sound. Reflecting on his debut single, Blunt humorously posted on Facebook in 2024, saying: "The first single I ever released was 'High' in 2004. For the video, they buried me
up to my neck in sand and threw cockroaches at me." He added wryly: "They don't tell you that when you send the record label your demos."
