Two multi-level parking slots being constructed by Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) at Sheikh Bagh and erstwhile State Motor Garages (SMG) near the Press Enclave in the city centre will

be completion by April 2020.   Officials said these parking slots, which are ramp-type and would allow vehicles to reach top floors, will accommodate almost 900 vehicles at a time. These

parking lots are being constructed as part of the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT)— a centrally sponsored scheme aimed for developing city infrastructure.

Estimated at Rs 55 crore, these parking slots are scheduled to be completed in next two years,” said Abdul Majid Raina, vice-chairman, SDA. The cost of the project at Sheikhbagh is Rs 25

crore while SMG parking project cost is Rs 30 crore, he said. “At the SMG parking, 467 vehicles could be accommodated while 130 two-wheelers can also be parked here,” Raina said.   The

Sheikh Bagh multi-level parking will accommodate 4300 four-wheelers and 50 two-wheelers and be surrounded by commercial complexes.  IPE Global, a Delhi-based consultant, has been appointed

as the consulting agency for the parking lots at SMG and Sheikh Bagh.    “The site for SMG parking is 13.01 kanals while Sheikh Bagh parking would be spread across 12.70 kanals .The SMG

parking has a proper entry and exit point. It would be ideal to use land from old lower court premises so that entry and exit becomes smooth for the Sheikh Bagh parking as well,” the SDA

official said. The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) is the nodal agency while SDA would be the implementing agency for the two new multi-level parking lots, which would include several

other facilities at a later stage. To mention, 90 per cent of funding for the two new parking’ slots would be generated from the centre and 10 per cent funding is from the state government,

the official said.   “We will have an electronic barricade which will count the number of vehicles that make an entry and exit the parking lots. CCTV cameras will be part of these parking

slots,” the SDA official said.
