Two Danish scientists have been named winners of the Samuel Friedman Foundation Rescue Awards for 1985 for outstanding achievement in the arts and sciences.
Uffe Haagerup, professor of mathematics at the University of Odense, received his award at UCLA; Arne Noe Nygaard, professor emeritus of geology at the University of Copenhagen, will receive
his award there May 4 in ceremonies celebrating the 40th anniversary of Denmark’s liberation from the Nazis.
The $10,000 awards are presented to Danish scientists and scholars to recognize the efforts of the Danish in saving Jews from concentration camps when the Germans took over Denmark during
World War II.
