Reiterating the need for immigration reform legislation, Immigration and Naturalization Service officials reported that apprehensions of illegal immigrants reached a record during April in
California and Arizona. A total of 103,000 illegals--nearly all of them Mexican citizens--were captured in five INS sectors in those two states, a 53% increase over captures for April, 1985.
INS Western Regional Commissioner Harold Ezell said in Los Angeles that as many as 2 million aliens could be captured nationwide this year, exceeding last year’s record figure of 1.2
