Bolivian President Victor Paz Estenssoro is urging the United States to provide at least $100 million for the fight against cocaine or risk having the “cocaine mafia” take over the Bolivian
government, Newsweek reported. In an interview in La Paz, he was asked if the present $1.5 million provided by the United States for police work is adequate. Estenssoro answered: “Totally
insufficient in every sense. We require at least $100 million to reduce coca-leaf plantations and undertake effective police actions.” He estimated that the cocaine dealers have $600 million
