The California State University Board of Trustees, meeting in Long Beach, has agreed to review the large pay raises awarded recently to 27 top university officials, including the 43% salary
hike--to $195,000 a year--given to Chancellor W. Ann Reynolds. The raises, which took effect Jan. 1, will remain in effect until a newly appointed committee of trustees presents a report on
the matter May 15. The raises have been denounced by faculty, students and state legislators for their size and the manner in which they were approved. In September, trustees authorized
board chairwoman Marianthi Landsdale to set raises, but the matter was not debated publicly nor presented to the board in detail. MORE TO READ
