State Will Accelerate Use of Alternative Fuel Cars: Under an executive order by Gov. Pete Wilson, to be released today, California’s government vehicle fleet will go beyond federal mandates
for adding alternative-fuel vehicles. Federal law now requires 10% of the state fleet to be fueled by natural gas or other cleaner-burning fuels by 1996 and 75% by 2000. The state initiative
will raise that to 25% by 1996 and 75% by 1999.
