NEW YORK — Six months after uncovering widespread cheating on standardized tests, a city education watchdog charged Tuesday that nine teachers at eight schools improperly assisted students
during testing. Special Commissioner of Investigation Edward Stancik, in a report summary to schools Chancellor Harold Levy, said additional reports of cheating surfaced after his initial
investigation. Levy said he has asked his general counsel to review the report. Stancik called for either firing or severely disciplining most of the teachers involved. United Federation of
Teachers President Randi Weingarten said that if Stancik’s allegations are true, “there should be serious consequences.” The union has an independent investigator reviewing the report. MORE
