The Ducks became the first team since the 1974-75 Philadelphia Flyers to lead the league in penalty minutes in the regular season, then go on to win the Stanley Cup.
* The Ducks love their reputation for being rugged, and sometimes they deserve it. They take a lot of penalties, but they’re not all fighting penalties. They received only two fighting
penalties in this Stanley Cup playoff run.
* The Flyers, known as the Broad Street Bullies, were a different story. They fought. They loved to fight and terrorized hockey in the 1970s. Dave Schultz -- who later played for the Kings
-- set an NHL season record with 472 penalty minutes.
* OF NOTE -- Schultz holds the single-season record. The career record for most penalty minutes is held by Tiger Williams, who had 3,966 over 14 years. Williams played for Toronto,
Vancouver, Detroit, the Kings and Hartford and averaged over 283 penalty minutes a year. The 3,966 penalty minutes works out to just over 2.75 days of Williams’ life spent in the penalty
box.
