City beat: queen of the doo dah parade gets her day at long last

Play all audios:

Today is the 37th Pasadena Doo Dah Parade. It's a big day for Nancy Urbach. The belly dancer who shimmies to the name Narayana is queen of Saturday's parade. She's danced her

way through the irreverent Rose Parade alternative every year since it started in 1978. Wearing the Doo Dah crown has been a dream of hers all these years. The crown, by the way, features

rhinestones, not diamonds -- as well as little peacocks and peacock feathers. Queen Narayana plans to arrive at the parade a la Cleopatra, on a litter carried by bare-chested men. In my City

Beat in Saturday's paper, I visit with Queen Narayana as she readies for the parade. Keep reading to see the story, in photos and videos, that I sent out on Twitter:  Follow City Beat
