How Bruno Fernandes treated Man United staff behind the scenes speaks volumesBruno Fernandes has been linked with a move away from Manchester United this summer, and the club would be losing

an elite mentality if he did ultimately head for the exitCommentsSportTom Sunderland Sports Writer13:00, 03 Jun 2025Bruno Fernandes has a top-tier character to go along with some of the

best qualities in European football(Image: Manchester United via Getty Images) Manchester United supporters are fully aware of Bruno Fernandes' important contributions in matches. Yet beyond

his footballing prowess, the attitude he demonstrates away from the pitch is not considered quite as common knowledge.

Following the Red Devils' failure to clinch European football for next season, speculation over Fernandes' potential departure has been widespread. Saudi Pro League powerhouse Al-Hilal

showed strong interest in acquiring his services and boast the financial clout that could sway United towards considering a lucrative deal.

‌ But the Portugal international has now shunned a move to the Middle East. That's after signalling his intention to stay with United, but the rumours surrounding his future are likely to

persist until the transfer window shuts on September 1, with other top European clubs on alert.

‌ United skipper Fernandes, who will celebrate his 31st birthday in September, has faced scrutiny for his leadership style in the past. United icon Roy Keane infamously branded the team as

"f***ing imposters" in February, casting some of the blame on Fernandes for not eliciting better performances from those around him.

Former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, however, bore witness to a different perspective of the midfielder. Not long after Fernandes joined United in 2020, the Norwegian shared an insight into

the modest, down-to-earth character of the player that put him in a league of his own.

"It was off the field as well as in training," Solskjaer said on the High Performance Podcast (via The Mirror) back in July of that year. "He demands off me. He demands off his team-mates.

come in here thinking, 'I'm the big shot.' No, he shook absolutely every staff members' hand."

This behaviour is quite remarkable for a player who had just sealed a £67million move to one of the world's most prestigious clubs. And it's not necessarily common to see such humility from

players in similar circumstances.

‌ Fernandes has made an indelible mark on match days, evidenced by his accolade as United's Player of the Season this term. His five Premier League Player of the Month awards are also

noteworthy, only two shy of Sergio Aguero's record, despite Fernandes playing in England for just a little more than five seasons compared to Aguero's 10.

Recent speculation has linked Fernandes with the Old Trafford exit, though it now looks like the player might stay(Image: Getty Images) Since Sir Alex Ferguson's departure, United have seen

many talented players come and go, often leaving behind a trail of disappointment. However, finding individuals with the resilience and unquantifiable qualities that Fernandes displays has

been a rarer occurrence.

fighters willing to do the hard yards for the club, and Fernandes stands out as perhaps the finest example in the current lineup.

Should Fernandes depart this summer, his new club will be acquiring not just an exceptional footballer, but also a model of professionalism. As United's transfer history over the past decade

or so demonstrates, that's something money can't always guarantee.
