Recent CdM High grad Tyler Macdonald and Willie McBride from Santa Barbara finished fourth overall out of 44 teams in the 29er German National Championships held on Lake Walchensee, Germany,
this week. This is the first big event for the newly formed team. Adult and junior sailors from Germany, Austria, Australia, the UK and the US participated in the races. Conditions were
light to medium breeze, 6 to15 knots, and very shifty. The 29er is an international skiff, and is a training boat for the two-man Olympic Skiff, the 49er and the newly announced Olympic
women’s double-handed Skiff. Macdonald and McBride, along with the other six US teams, were preparing for the 29er European Championships to be held in Locarno-Brissago, Switzerland, on Lake
Maggiore, starting on tomorrow, July 16, and ending on July 23. This will be the biggest 29er class event of the year in Europe, with 160 teams from all over the world. Juniors and seniors
will compete together. Follow along on the 29 Euros website, http://www.29ereuropeans.org.
