The animation teaser of the upcoming Malayalam film Kolambi has been unveiled and has captured the attention of the film buffs for being different. It has a loudspeaker announcing the
release of Kolambi the old-fashioned way that movies were once announced, while on the screen you watch an animated owl and a dragonfly, with fish in the waters below.
Nithya Menen is collaborating with director TK Rajeev Kumar for Kolambi after the 2016 film Thalsamayam Oru Pennkutty which turned out to be a big hit.
On working in Kolambi, Nithya Menen said in an earlier interview to The News Minute, “The movie is a very purely content-oriented film, made in the style I absolutely love. It is a beautiful
story about an artist. I play an artist. I am coming to Koch to exhibit my work at the Biennale in Kochi (partly shot at the actual Biennale venue). The artist gets inspiration from this
old couple – played by Renji Panicker and Rohini – how they sort of influence and become a muse for her artwork. It is a really pleasant story about art and music (Kolaambi of course is the
loudspeaker – there’s a gramophone playing beautiful music with LP records on it).”
The technical crew of this entertainer includes the Oscar winning sound engineer Resul Pookutty and cinematographer Ravi Varman with Ramesh Narayan composing the tunes. The film’s star cast
also includes Renji Panicker, Dileesh Pothan, Rohini, Aristo Suresh, Siddharth Menon, Baiju Santhosh and Vijay Yesudas in supporting roles. Roopesh Omana is bankrolling the film under his
banner Nirmalyam Cinema.
It may be noted here that Nithya Menen’s last film release was Praana, a supernatural thriller directed by VK Prakash. Nithya played the sole actor in Praana, except for a few blurred faces
in a crowd.
Nithya is also expecting the release of her maiden Hindi film. The film is titled Mangal Mission and stars Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan and Sonakshi Sinha play the lead roles. The film is
slated for an August 15 release this year.
