The News Minute | November 9, 2014 | 08:39 am IST The Pre University College Principal's Association in Bengaluru has drafted a 34-point guidelines for the safety of girl students
keeping in mind the increase in cases of sexual abuse against girls, states a report by Outlook. The guidelines, which have been circulated in South Bengaluru colleges, advices colleges to
monitor activities of girl students after taking permission from their parents. Some of the instructions in the guidelines include banning of mobile phone in the campus, display of identity
cards during college hours, collecting information about the students regarding what time they leave from home for college and when they return, and also counsel them in case of suspicion.
The guidelines also ask colleges to give utmost priority to women's security measures and to formulate women's committee in colleges, to address issues that girl students face.
The guidelines also recommend monitoring who accompanies students to colleges, monitor tv and internet browsing in college.The circular has been issued by the Deputy Director of
Pre-University (DDPU), Bengaluru South.The Times of India reports states that some seem to have found the strict guidelines as nothing short of moral policing. However, Ravindra H Ritti, PU
education department joint director, told the publication that 'with 'so many cases of sexual abuse of girls', the department wants to 'ensure they're protected on
campus. We'll keep watch on the students. If a student doesn't turn up at college, parents must know about it.'
