Ilaiyaraaja gets Padma Vibhushan: Full list of 2018 Padma awardees

Music director Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja will be awarded the Padma Vibhushan award at the Republic Day celebrations on Friday by the President of India.
President Ramanath Kovind will award the Padma awards this Republic Day to a host of distinguished personalities including 98-year-old social worker Sudhanshu Biswas, and 'father of
palliative care in India' MR Rajagopal.
Renowned scientist toymaker Arvind Gupta, painter Bhajju Shyam, herbal medicine expert known as 'grandmother of medicine' - Lakshmikutty are among the ‘Unsung Heroes’ awarded Padma Sri this
year.
There are many women in the Padma awards list this year, including Tamil folk art exponent Vijayalakshmi. The other recipients include a housemaid who built a hospital for the poor Subhasini
Mistry, midwife Sulagatti Narasamma, and more.
The list of recipients also includes Paralympic gold medalist Murlikant Petkar and monk physician Yeshi Dhoden.
These awardees are given awards in their fields and disciplines of speciality such as art, literature and education, sports, medicine, social work, science and engineering, public affairs,
civil service, trade and industry.
More than 15,000 Indians are nominated for the Padma awards for 2018, with the government laying stress on honouring the unsung heroes.
