The News Minute| November 15, 2014| 4.30 pm ISTRussia is set to create and develop its own version of Wikipedia, according to Reuters report. The new website is to provide the Russian
citizens with the government’s version of ‘accurate and reliable’ information about the country. The Russian government is reportedly not happy with the existing information about Russia on
the various pages available on Wikipedia. Wikipedia is a free ‘encyclopedia’, where one can find information about anything and everything under the sun. The site is also based on user
contributions, where the information provided is contributed to by millions of users worldwide and is curated by the page’s moderators. This particular move is following the Kremlin slowly
taking over all media channels in Russia. Due to apparent ‘western threats’, the Kremlin is posing bans on a lot of internet content in the country and is also pushing pro-Kremlin content at
the same time.
